Who are we?

We're a family-run farm in Cumbria, home to 6,000 free-range hens, 420 lambing ewes plus their lambs, along with cows, pigs, horses, 15 beehives and our 11 working dogs. As a family farming business producing our own meat, honey and eggs, we're proud of the way we work the land.

Our farming journey started over 25 years ago with a flock of 50 sheep. And over the years we have grown to where we are today.

Located in The Lake District

We pride ourselves in looking after our animals and rearing them to high welfare standards. Letting our livestock mature slowly with minimal concentrated feed. We do not use artificial fertiliser on our land and deeply care for the environment and wildlife on our farm.

Shopping local reduces the air miles of food which helps to reduce emissions and buying food from a sustainable source is also of great benefit to the environment. We find it is also a huge comfort knowing where your food has come from and being able to see how it is raised and looked after, you can be assured it has had a good life here at Smithy Garth.
